The Maryhill Stonehenge is replica of England’s Stonehenge located in Maryhill, Washington. It was commissioned in the early twentieth century by businessman Samuel Hill and dedicated on July 4, 1918 as a memorial to those who had died in World War I.

The original image was taken in 2023. The dark skies over Maryhill presented a good opportunity to capture the Milky Way in the background. The red coloring between the stone in the original photo was achieved by a technique know as “light painting.” In this case I use a light whip set to a red color and waved it in the opening during a long exposure while, my wife and creative direction operated the camera.
