The background of the homepage is a painting of an Alder grove on Orcas Island. This image will become a part of the art collection. The original image was taken during a birthday trip with my lovely wife to Orcas Island, Washington.
The San Juan Islands are an archipelago located in the Salish Sea, off the coast of Washington State. They consist of several named islands and reefs, with four main islands—San Juan Island, Orcas Island, Lopez Island, and Shaw Island—offering amenities and ferry access. Known for their breathtaking natural beauty, the islands feature lush forests, rugged coastlines, and serene waters, making them a haven for outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, and whale watching.
The San Juans are rich in wildlife, including orcas, bald eagles, and seals, and have a mild climate year-round due to their location in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. Each island has its own character: for instance, Orcas is known for Moran State Park and Mount Constitution, while Lopez has a laid-back atmosphere and bike-friendly roads. The islands also have a vibrant arts community, historic sites, and quaint villages, attracting visitors seeking relaxation and adventure.
The San Juan Islands are worthy of a quest.
